Are you having a social media engagement issue? Are you posting on Facebook but hardly anyone is seeing your posts or engaging with them? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Organic reach on Facebook is somewhere between one and six percent!
You might have guessed why: it’s the algorithm! Here’s how it works.
- In the first hour, the new post is shown to a small percentage of your audience.
- The engagement during that time is measured
- The post is compared to previous posts from similar days and times
- The better the performance, the more it will be seen, such as in the explore tab.
As you can tell, social media platforms do not favor businesses. Facebook and Instagram don’t want you, the business owner, to be able to reach and build an audience organically. Instead, they want you to pay them to do so.
The good news is you can amplify the organic reach with even a small budget. If you’re not sure where to start, here’s what I recommend:
Start by boosting your posts to people who already follow your page. I know, it might sound counterintuitive, but just because they follow you does not mean they are seeing your posts. Budgets of five or ten dollars can go a long way on social media. And if you can get people to like, comment or share, the chances of them seeing your future posts organically increases. Not sure which posts to promote? Wait for Facebook or Instagram to send a notification that says something like “this post is performing ninety percent better than your average post.” Give that one a shot.
I hope this was helpful and that your engagement and reach goes up!
